Thóra Sigurðardóttir 3 may – 18 may 2008
The project in the exhibition spaces of Spiazzi consists of recent work, realized outside and within the artist’s studio in Vittorio Veneto during the winther months and early spring of 2007-2008, and in the residency studio of Spiazzi in Venice April 08. The work consists of drawings, documentary videos, modeled terra cotta, found objects and photos. It is an inquiry into “matter” and its apparent status at the beginning of the 21st century.
*The house (the habitat) — the house of memories— with all its tactile surfaces and facets hails memories, remembrances; of texture, density, hue, covers, smell, and undertones that the skin, and membranes in ear and eye sifts into memory. Virtual remembran(c)es. Textures of surfaces are mediated to memory through skin and membrane; the membrane and skin leaves residues on (real) surfaces, inscribing the memory of us on it, or in it — in the ethical nature of memory and remembrance, hair and hide, resides data, and maybe an interpellation for responsibility, of unborn generations.*
Thóra Sigurðardóttir lives in Reykjavik, Iceland, with a residency in Italy. The exhibition in Spiazzi is her first one in Italy.
